Bill Keays
Principal

Bill is the founding Principal of Keays & Associates Chartered Accountants.
Prior to the establishment of Keays & Associates in August 2015, Bill was a Partner/Director of the accounting firm Hales Keays, which was established in 1998. Bill also worked for 7.5 years in the Taxation and Business Services Division of Price Waterhouse (now PricewaterhouseCoopers) and has over 25 years' experience assisting and advising clients.
Bill’s areas of expertise include:
- Tax planning, compliance and structuring advice.
- Business taxation.
- Capital gains tax, particularly the small business CGT concessions.
- Division 7A compliance (relating to loans from private companies to associates).
- Taxation of trusts.
- Professional practices structuring and compliance.
- Taxation of property transactions.
Bill is actively involved with The Tax Institute as Chair of the WA State Council and a member of the Education Advisory Board, and is a former member of the State and National Professional Development Committees.
In 2016, Bill was a Finalist in The Tax Institute "SME Tax Adviser of the Year " Awards. In 2018 and 2019, Bill was appointed as a Judge for these Awards.
Leonie Hockey
Senior Manager

Chartered Accountant, Chartered Tax Adviser, Registered Tax Agent
Leonie is a Senior Manager at Keays & Associates with over 25 years' experience in accounting and tax. She was a Director and owner of Hales Keays from 2007 until 2015.
Leonie also worked for several years in the Taxation and Business Services Division of Price Waterhouse (now PricewaterhouseCoopers).
Leonie has a strong technical focus and works in a very hands-on manner with clients. Her experience in running much of the administrative compliance function at Hales Keays means she understands the issues that arise in running a small business.
Amanda Donald
Manager
Bachelor of Commerce (Professional Accounting), Bachelor of Arts (Psychology),
Fellow Tax Institute, Chartered Accountant
Amanda is a Manager at Keays & Associates with over 10 years' experience in the accounting field. Amanda initially commenced employment with Hales Keays in January 2013 as a Senior Accountant and on the establishment of Keays & Associates, was engaged as an Assistant Manager.
Amanda has diverse experience in an array of accounting roles and industries, having been employed as a financial accountant in the oil and gas industry, an auditor at PricewaterhouseCoopers and as a senior accountant in other small professional services firms.

- Self-managed superannuation taxation compliance.
- Management accounting.
- Business financial process development.
- GST compliance.

Amanda is actively involved with The Tax Institute as Vice-Chair of the WA Professional Development Committee, a member of the Young Tax Professionals Committee and has presented on Division 7A for the 2019 Young Tax Professionals series.
Michelle Duong
Senior Accountant
Bachelor of Commerce (Accounting) and Social Sciences
Michelle is a Senior Accountant at Keays & Associates. Michelle completed her Bachelor of Commerce (Accounting) and Social Sciences degree at Curtin University in 2012. She was employed with Hales Keays as an Undergraduate Accountant whilst completing her degree and thereafter became a Graduate Accountant. Michelle resigned from Hales Keays in February 2015 to join Carbon Business Group as a Bookkeeper. Michelle specialised in the use of Xero accounting software predominantly in payroll services, however, also assisted in managing the day to day accounts for small businesses.
Michelle is currently completing the CA programme.

Drew Porter
Accountant
Bachelor of Exercise Science and Rehabilitation, Bachelor of Business (Accounting)
Drew is a Senior Accountant at Keays & Associates. Drew began working for Hales Keays in July 2014. He has completed a Bachelor of Business (Accounting) degree online at Swinburne University in Melbourne. Drew is currently completing the CA programme.

Claire Mutzig
Practice Manager
Claire has more than 30 years' experience in managing staff and business administration in merchant banking, legal and accounting firms. Claire joined Price Waterhouse in 1994 as the Human Resources Co-Ordinator and, after merger, became Practice Manager in the Tax & Legal Services Division of PricewaterhouseCoopers. After leaving in 2003 to have children, Claire returned to work in her husband's business, a chiropractic clinic, assisting with the management of the business. The clinic is also one of our clients. Claire has first hand knowledge of the challenges which small businesses face.
Claire has been employed with Hales Keays and, thereafter, Keays & Associates, since November 2013.
Claire will assist you with any queries you may have, particularly regarding ASIC, accounts payable and receivable and any administrative area of our practice.
